Fo Guang University Hosts “From Print to Digital” Lecture Series : Rex How of Locus Publishing Discusses the Transformation of Reading and Five Key Needs


On December 19, Fo Guang University held the second session of its “From Print to Digital: The New Era of Publishing Industry Transformation” lecture series, featuring Rex How, Chairman of Locus Publishing. The lecture, titled “Books, My Life, and Your Possibilities: From Print Books to AI, Five Needs of Reading,” was co-organized by the Department of Chinese Literature and Application and the Venerable Master Hsing Yun Digital Humanities Research and Development Center. Dr. Tseng Shu-Hsien, the center’s director, delivered the opening remarks, and Venerable Miao Kuang, Director of the FGS Founding Master’s Secretary Office, presented Mr. How with Fo Guang Shan’s blessings and the 2025 New Year couplets.

Mr. How is a distinguished publisher, writer, and Chairman of Locus Publishing, as well as the publisher of “Net and Books.” In 2022, was honored with the Special Contribution Award at the 13th Golden Comic Awards for his relentless efforts in fostering international exchange within the publishing industry. A leading figure in the field, Mr. How drew on his extensive practical experience to discuss the challenges and opportunities arising from the transition from print to digital publishing. His lecture offered a fresh perspective on the evolving value and significance of reading in the digital age.

Faculty and students in attendance expressed that the lecture not only provided a deep understanding of the development of the publishing industry, but also highlighted Mr. How’s resilient spirit and innovative thinking in the face of contemporary challenges. His insightful sharing inspired the audience to envision the future of publishing. Additionally, Mr. How’s analysis of reading demands offered a refreshing perspective, rekindling enthusiasm and interest in reading. His talk also helped attendees reflect on their own learning goals and cultivate good reading habits.
