Fo Guang University’s Venerable Master Hsing Yun Digital Humanities Research and Development Center, in collaboration with the Library and Information Services Office, recently hosted the “Application and Resources of Digital Humanities Workshop.” The event attracted faculty and students from the university, monastics from Fo Guang Shan, and staff from Yilan County Government’s related departments. Aimed at promoting the application of digital humanities resources, the workshop explored the use of information technology in humanities research and encouraged interdisciplinary innovation through digital tools.
The event featured two distinguished speakers: Dr. Cheng Ching-ju from Rare Books and Special Collections Division at the National Central Library, and Dr. Hung Yi-Mei, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Computer Science and Information Engineering at National Taiwan University. Their in-depth presentations covered the development and application of digital humanities resources, showcasing the latest tools and platforms from the National Central Library and NTU. Topics included the operation and use of historical data platforms, data analysis methods, and digital curation techniques. Participants found the content highly practical and insightful.
The two sessions attracted participants from both Fo Guang University’s faculty and students, as well as individuals from outside the university. Attendees included scholars focused on humanities research and professionals in cultural and historical fields interested in the application of digital technology, showcasing a strong enthusiasm for digital humanities research and a drive for innovative exploration. President of Fo Guang University, Chao Han Chieh and Vice President Jan Pi Tzong attended the event to show their support. President Chao emphasized the university’s dedication to fostering technological competence among students, noting that such initiatives equip participants with advanced tools to broaden the depth and scope of their research.
