Department of Buddhist Studies

Established in 2007, the Department of Buddhist Studies at Fo Guang University (“DBS” afterwards) offers BA, MA, and PhD degrees. Our English track MA program is unique in Taiwan as a graduate program in Buddhist Studies with all courses taught in English or in bilingual medium (English and Mandarin Chinese). Students enrolled in the department come from many different backgrounds, including monastic and householders, as well as students from various countries.

DBS aims at offering holistic education for students, with equal emphasis on academic learning and moral development. DBS has a strong faculty in the studies of Chinese Buddhism, but faculty teaching courses range from Indian Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism to contemporary application. 

In cooperation with DBS, the Center for Buddhist Studies at Fo Guang University hosts lectures and international conferences, serving an important role in the research of Chinese Buddhism.
