Fo Guang University Expands Academic Collaboration with Hong Kong Universities

Fo Guang University's newly appointed president, Professor Chao Han-Chieh, visited two prestigious universities in Hong Kong on March 21, fostering interdisciplinary academic collaborations. In the morning, he visited Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) and later in the afternoon, met with representatives at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK). Discussions focused on cross-disciplinary cooperation, student exchange programs, and innovative education strategies.

Accompanying the delegation were Venerable Yung Fu, Head of the Fo Guang Shan Hong Kong and Macau Region, Venerable Chueh Yu, Superintendent of Hong Kong Fo Guang Vihara, and Lin Qi, Assistant Director of the Humanistic Buddhism Application Research Center.

Strengthening Ties with Hong Kong Metropolitan University

At HKMU, the delegation toured the Jockey Club School of Health and Nursing, observing the integration of traditional Chinese medicine with modern healthcare technology. They also visited the university’s physiotherapy center and digital arts laboratory, exploring potential collaborations in rehabilitative medicine and creative technologies.

During the meeting, HKMU’s leadership, including President Professor Lam Kwan-Sing, Vice President Professor Kwok Yu-Kwong, and key faculty members, engaged in discussions on future cooperation. Professor Lam proposed organizing friendly sports competitions and summer programs to enhance student exchanges. In response, Professor Chao suggested leveraging both institutions’ strengths for joint course offerings and invited HKMU representatives to visit Fo Guang University. The proposal was met with enthusiasm from HKMU’s leadership.

Exploring Collaboration with Hang Seng University

In the afternoon, the delegation visited HSUHK, where they met with Provost Dr. Mo Ka-Ho, Vice President Dr. Foo Hoi-Ying Jenny, and other faculty members specializing in humanities and social sciences. The discussion revolved around the intersection of public relations and humanities, translation studies, and social service initiatives. The institutions also explored potential postgraduate collaboration between Fo Guang University’s Department of Public Relations and HSUHK’s Department of Chinese.

Following the meeting, the delegation toured the Lee Ka Shing Innovation Laboratory, gaining insights into HSUHK’s advancements in integrating technology with education. Professor Chao acknowledged the complementary strengths of both institutions in humanities and social sciences and emphasized the importance of shared academic resources in nurturing globally competent professionals.

A New Chapter in Academic Cooperation

This visit laid a strong foundation for a closer partnership between Fo Guang University, HKMU, HSUHK, and the Hong Kong Fo Guang Vihara. The three parties have committed to actively pursuing collaborative initiatives in the near future, setting a new benchmark for higher education cooperation in the region.
